Are qualifications needed to be a financial adviser?The minimum qualification is the Financial Planning Certificate and anyone trying to advise without this should be reported to the FSA (Financial Services Authority) There are a number of qualifications that are appropriate and these are run by the Chartered Insurance Institute. These are essential if you want a financial adviser that is qualified in Liverpool and Merseyside. A good starting point is to visit the SOFA website as only financial advisers with at least three of the advanced examinations can be registered with SOFA. If you want an indication of the various qualifications there are you can go to cii.co.uk If you want a holistic review then the financial adviser should have the following examinations: If you are a business then you need someone who has the following examinations: Mortgages have only recently become regulated by the FSA, which means that there are a number of financial advisers that have either left the industry or have become regulated for the first time. If you only want a mortgage then you want someone who has at least the Certificate in Mortgage Advice but it makes sense to ensure they also have the advanced examination for Personal Investment Planning (G10). Mortgages have become increasing specialised so you should look for a financial adviser who concentrates their time on mortgages in the Liverpool and Merseyside area's.
